Sometimes I think too much.

Last night in between watching Olympic figure skating (WHICH I LOVE!!!- It's my most favourite Olympic event ever...EVER!) Dustin and I were watching a show on TLC about men who overuse steroids for bodybuilding and how it affects your body. Now, I'm not against buff men persay. I mean what woman doesn't want a good strong man to protect her. But seriously...
seriously...
these guys were GROTESQUE! Thier muscles looked so gnarled and bulky that it almost appeared to be a giant cancerous tumour that swallowed them whole! YIKES! And it seems as if these men think that it's the ultimate glory to look like that. I don't know about you girls but I prefer my men to look human.
I was thinking about it last night. Trying to figure out why some men want so badly to look a certain way when it's not even really attractive. And how it's not that much different from how women want to be SO thin. WHY?
I really and truly believe without a doubt in my mind that the evil one has filled our minds with lies. He is distorting what God has created to be beautiful and put in our minds this unattainable destructive image to strive for. In such that the only way to achieve this false beauty is to, in the men's case, take steroids and risk heart disease, stroke, liver damage etc. And in the case of woman, starve themselves, or take damaging diet pills, or develop a destructive eating disorder. How sad it that?!
Man cannot create beauty. Think about it! We plant gardens, but we do not create the flowers! We give birth but we do not create the child! We paint picture of things that are beautiful but they are only a replica, a mere copy of the original. A picture of a mountain cannot come even close to the glory of the true, living scene.

My conclusion for the night...

Nothing is beautiful apart from God and His precious creation. Man's feeble attempts at creating it for himself are nothing short of destructive, even sinful. How sad it must make Him to see us mutilating ourselves, who have been made in His precious image, to fit our distorted view of what we believe to be beautiful. Oh how we idolize ourselves.

Forgive us Lord...
