This is the part where I talk about poop, stomach acid and blood...

Unfortunately in the panic and hussle of our move I forgot to go to my last doctor appointment in Summerland. Which, I guess, turned out to be a bad idea. A few days ago I nearly passed out in the shower and I've been feeling increasingly more and more dizzy and lightheaded as time goes by. I figured I must be anemic, or have low blood pressure as I tend to experience both especially in my pregnancies. So, I went to a nice no name doctor here in Lethbridge with a soothing british accent and a easy smile. Pleasant. He ordered me some blood work and sent me off to get me some poop helping liquid called lactulose. Now, I'm generally constipated on a good day when I'm not pregnant, so you can just imagine how fun this whole pregnany thing is for me. No amount of prune juice, water, fruit, Bran Buds or Colace is going to get this bulk moving out of me. And you can imagine my delight when my Dr from Summerland phones me up to tell me I'm "severely" anemic and to get my butt out the door and onto 300mg of Ferrous Gluconate as soon as I get off the phone. Iron, in case you didn't know, CONSTIPATES! I don't know, but for some reason passing out in the shower almost seems better than grunting fand cramping from the pressure of trying to remove the giant mass that's been building up in my colon for the last few weeks. Not to mention that my hemoglobin is only going to keep dropping if I don't do something about this. Blah blah blah. And truly, I want to do what's best for this little baby. So, my mom had a nice chat with the pharmacist, who recommended us this stuff from the Health food store that is high in iron and vitamins AND isn't constipating. Everybody now...HORRAY!!
It tastes like a hamster's butthole but I don't care. So, hopefully in a few days I will have some more energy and not feel too dizzy. Can you believe I moved all those bozes while being so anemic? And I thought It was just the weight of the boxes getting to me. By the way, Vicki, if you're reading this I'm begging you to tell me what that heartburn medication you were on is. I'm sleeping upright dowing a bottle of Tums a night just to make it till morning. I must be having a girl. I had heartburn with Megan too.

There's my saga. Other than all the non-pooping and burning in my esophogus and practically passing out I am LOVING being pregant. Not really, I'm actually quite ready for this to be done. But, I do feel better having just got back from Thyme with an armful of new duds to keep my belly covered over the next few months. TEN WEEKS TO GO!!

I'll put a picture up as soon as I get my act together. Love you all and don't forget to watch Grey's Anatomy tonight!!!!

There's this thing that a Mom I know was taking to help milk production and regularity. I will get teh name of it for you. Anyone heard of it?

Pregnancy sounds wonderful.

Sorry to hear you're feeling so crummy! Pregnancy seems to take forever when you're feeling healthy, never mind when you're feeling gross. So what's the story behind knowing what a hamster's butthole tastes like? Just kidding. Hope you get regular soon and can enjoy the last ten weeks!

I know what you're talking about Liz, I know a friend of mine who went on it. It's a weird G-word.

I, too, was dangerously low on my Iron, and I have to take 2 of the 300 mg pills per day until the Baby comes. But at least I don't have to deal with constpation! I hope the stuff you got works for you!

I'm glad you're with your Momma so she can take care of you, but we miss you here! Graham misses Ben too :)

Hope you start to feel better soon it sucks to be feeling bad and to be away from Dustin - rest assured though he's in good hands but we're all really looking forward to you coming home. Grey's wasn't the same without you

Hi...I'm just a friend of a friend...I have 2 kids and have had constipation issues before and after ... a nurse told me in the hospital to get some black licorise. It does the trick every time. If I'm having an especially bad week...just start chomping away and your issues will be solved. Also I've been seeing the chiro because of lower back issues which I believe is the major cause of poor poop flowage. Thought I'd recommend and share those two options.

I think the medication for heartburn is ranitidine (zantac). You can buy it over the counter but just to be sure I would check with the Dr. Sorry to hear you aren't feeling your best. I have another recipe for boosting your iron that has molasses, lemon juice, and honey. We tell new moms about it after delivery. I go to work tonight so I will look up the specifics. Got to be better than the hamster butt tasting stuff!

Okay. This stuff is awesome. You have to take it every day (I skipped a couple days and it was bad...really, really bad). Ranitidine. Twice a day. Zero heartburn. Hope you love it as much as I did!!

Hi again, here is the recipe I told you about on my last comment:
1 tbsp blackstrap molasses
1 tbsp lemon juice
realemon in the bottle
mix with boiling water like a tea and add honey to sweeten. Hope it helps.

Christy, The thing I was mentioning is called "Motilium" it's supposed to increase regularity and milk production. Other name: Domperidone Maleate. Good luck with all the other advice you got, though.. blogger-love!

Christy, Oh Christy! Can I ever relate to the whole iron thing. Take care of it now as I was sick for a year and a half after Payton was born because no one told me what was wrong. We miss you guys! Kerri Z.
