When it comes back to haunt you.

Awhile back Dustin and i had decided we'd had enough of our two year old daughter toting her soother every where she went and decided it was time to purge our household of said item. My belief was that it was going to be very difficult to accomplish such a task due to the degree of attachment megan had towards her soother. And yes, it took a few days but ultimately was much easier than I'd first imagined it would be. There have been a few instances however in which Megan's lingering longing for her soother is still evidenced.

Like the time I found her sleeping. Sleeping in Olivia's crib, soother dangling from her limp lips. Or the time I discovered her hiding under a blanket in her room sucking furiously on Avelyn's soother which she stole straight off the little soother attachment apparatus that was firmly upon Avelyn's pants.

The first night we put Megan to bed without her soother she wailed, she cried, she bargained, she cajoled. But, I knew I could not give in. In an effort to portray the finality of the situation I explained to Megan that I had put her soother in the garbage and I had put the garbage outside and the garbage men had come and taken the soother away, far far away to the dump to live with all the other little soothers in sootherland. Yes, that's right... Sootherland. I could not drive there it was too far. And with that she went to sleep knowing her soother was gone. That was months ago.

A few days ago we were playing outside when the garbage truck pulled into the culdesac to pick up the garbage. And there it was..... a little blonde girl running for all she was worth towards the truck yelling at the top of her lungs.

YOU TOOK AWAY MY SOOTHER! HEY YOU! YOU TOOK MY SOOTHER TO THE DUMP! CAN YOU GO GET MY SOOTHER BACK!?

Yikes! I scooped her up and sushed her and took her in the house before she got their attention. Kids sure don't forget very easily do they?

What a cute story. We had a real problem with Jillian and her soother. We lucked out because she wiped out and cut her lip and she said it hurt to suck her soother. That was the end of it!

That girl is hilarious. I miss her. Now we can't hear her say "i love you" through her soother anymore? That was so cute.

Wow, she is innovative isn't she? I can't believe she got Olivia's soother...hey, she is one smart cookie! That is hilarious about her running after the garbage truck. You know, she will be forever scarred for this - ha ha.

I can just picture it. That's so funny! I remember going through the same angst when we took the soother away from Megan, then Kayla. In a year and a half, we'll be doing it again. I am not looking forward to it!
